World Book Day Storyteller

9th Mar 2020

As part of our World Book Day celebrations Donemana Primary were delighted to welcome Mrs Maureen Nutt who came to hold storytelling sessions for each of our classes. The children took turns to hear stories in the library where the sessions also involved drama, tasting time, looking at historical artefacts and even topical debate!

P1/2 took part in the story, 'Each, Peach, Pear, Plum' and had to find all the characters mentioned.  They even got to taste a little bit of peach, pear and plum!

P2/3 dramatized the story, 'The Spooky Old Tree' and children had fun joining in with the bears adventure and especially enjoyed acting out the shivers part of the book!

P4 were treated to a section of, 'The Twits' book and took it in turns to find the grotesque items that lurked within Mr Twits famous beard!

P5/6/7 heard the thought provoking tale of, 'When Jessie Came Across The Sea' and were transported to another time when immigration was a life changing decision and couldn't easily be undone.  The classes were also able to look at artefacts related to the story and enjoyed asking Mrs Nutt questions.

Mrs Nutt afterwards commented on the excellent behaviour and super listening skills of our classes which made us all very proud of our children.  The children in turn were very excited by their story time sessions and asked if Mrs Nutt could come back EVERY WEEK!

Kerry-Jo: I liked the witch in the story.  I liked the plum but not the peach.

David: It was great. Mummy Nutt made the story sound very spooky!

Grace:  Mr Twit is disgusting. I want to read the book now.

Eirinn: I think hearing the story was a great thing to do.  I really liked the part when they were reunited.

Erin: I liked when Mummy Nutt paused and explained everything.  I loved the book!

Alex: I liked the book because things like that actually happened!

We hope you enjoy looking at the snapshots of our storytelling day.
