P3/4/ had a fantastic time taking Numeracy outdoors last week. They started by learning to identify leaves from different trees, then collected some from the school grounds. Using their new found knowledge they counted them, recording their findings in a tally chart. They then had the tricky job of turning their findings into a Pictogram with a key of 1 leaf = 4 in real life. It required excellent counting in 4s as well as some fractions (cutting into quarters). Finally they answered questions about their data, to show they understood it. What a busy morning, but we thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air and gorgeous Autumn leaves. Why not take a walk in the woods with your child and see what leaves they can recognise? You might learn something from them too!
