Football Fever at DPS

Football Fever at DPS

Football fever hit DPS during the month of February.

A team of P4/5 children and a team of P6/7 children were chosen to represent the school in two tournaments at Castlederg High School. Both tournaments were organised by Mr Sproule from Killen P.S.

On Friday the 3rd February the team of P6/7 children had an exceptional day! They began in a group phase where they won two matches, lost one and drew one. Pupils on the scoresheet were Ollie, Harry and Alexander. Huge well done to Ollie who scored an amazing free kick in our match against Newtownstewart Model.

Having played so well in the group stage the team finished second and managed to secure a place in the Quarter Final of the Champions League section of the draw. The children faced Edwards PS in the quarter final and were very unlucky to lose 1 goal to nil. They should be very proud of themselves and their performances.

Well done boys!

On Friday the 10th of February, a team of 4/5 children travelled to another tournament, once again in Castlederg H.S. There was a huge emphasis on fun at the P4/5 tournament and the chance for children to gain a little experience in a competitive environment. The P4/5 children performed brilliantly on the day, unfortunately they didn’t come away with any wins but managed to get some points on the board with two draws against St Patrick’s and McClintock PS.

Both the P4/5 and P6/7 teams represented the school brilliantly and should be very proud of themselves.

We would like to say a HUGE THANKS to David & Ruth Hay and Sons Funeral Directors, for their very kind sponsorship of both sets of buses which transported the children to and from the tournaments. We are extremely grateful for this generosity especially in a time when our school is under huge budget constraints.

Thank you.
