With all the good weather lately, P2 and P3 have been enjoying some outdoor structured play.
The all weather beanbags are just perfect for nestling down with a good book.
Who's in charge here? Some of us are pedalling hard while others take a back seat!
Now how many cupfuls of liquid will this container hold I wonder? We added some food colouring and bubbles to the water. It was much more interesting.
It's a goal! That net was pretty high, but we managed to shoot some goals.
P2 and P3 went up to the woods as part of their science topic. We used our senses particularly sight, smell, touch and hearing. We saw some badger footprints and found an enormous plant called a Gunnera which had huge leaves.
We gathered seeds, leaves, wild flowers, moss and twigs but no living creatures!
We didn't stay too long because the midges were biting us an awful lot!!
P2/3 were learning about time in their numeracy. They were using clock timers to measure one minute of time. For some activities the time went slowly but for others it went quickly. We were quite surprised at what we got done in one minute.
Our first activity was writing our names as often as possible in the time. We could only manage four or five of those.
Next we were building some multilink cubes. That was much more successful! We got between fifteen and twenty cubes in one minute.
Finally we put on our jumpers as many times as we could. This was hot work! We only managed three or four of those!
This was a really enjoyable activity and we had lots of turns in our numeracy and structured play sessions.
P2 and P3 have been learning about Electricity and Magnetism. They had a fun lesson playing games which involved magnets.
There was 'get the paperclip out of the cup without using your fingers' game. We were very fast at that one!
Next there was the fishing game where you needed a steady hand.
Then there was the sand game where you had to find the paperclips hidden in the sand with your magnet.
We particularly enjoyed the racing car game, where you had to guide the paperclip along the race track with your magnet.
Finally we had great fun making boats with corks and drawing pins and guiding them round the tank with our magnets.
P2 and P3 have been doing some shared reading from a big book called Yum ! Yuck !
They have been focusing on learning adjectives and words which contain the long vowel "ee" sound eg (easy, tree, happy and babies).
They made up some really yucky sentences with some of our special words. Read them through and see what you think.
P3 were making a study of two islands. One was a Scottish island and the other one was an island off the coast of South Africa.
They made a plan of the scottish island of Barra including the harbour and the beach.
We used cereal boxes to make models of volcanoes like the one on Tristan Da Cunha which erupted in 1961. The people had to leave the island for almost three years.
