After School Clubs
Following the past twelve weeks, where children from school have been involved in Art and Drama sessions provided by Brenda and Mandy from 'In your Space,' the children today put on a show of their clown capabilities and it was fair to say, displayed a lot of natural ability!
The performance was followed by the presentation of the Sports' Day certificates and prizes, and the presentation of the prizes from the Duck Race held on Sports' Day.
There was further good news, with the PTA being able to announce a profit of £579.36 from the running of the Duck Race and Sports' Day. Thanks again to everyone involved for their efforts and their contributions.
The end of term is fast approaching, and tomorrow morning sees the Teddy Bears' Picnic for September's new Primary 1 children, and Thursday sees the farewell to the Primary Seven pupils.
The Primary Seven children finish school on Thursday after the Assembly, whilst the rest of school goes on until 12 on Friday.
Girls from different classes throughout the school have been attending afternoon dance sessions with instructor Nora Kavannagh.
The girls have been doing a range of dances and have brought them together in a final presentation piece which all the other children in school-and a number of parents-got to enjoy today.
Thank you to Nora and the children for their hard work and enthusiasm, and to the parents who turned up to support.
Primary 6 and Primary 7 gilrs have been impressing many with the work that has resulted from their innovative after-school Club - CC4G.
CC4G gives girls the opportunity to explore and learn to use creative IT applications, with the intention of improving their understanding of how IT can be used and to address their negative perception of the IT industry.
Our Club has 14 members, who are currently enjoying many of the fun activities and have just finished their first challenge.
The girls were asked to write and record an autocue script for a celebrity interview, imagining they were the host of their own show. They completed this challenge to a very high standard and after writing, filming and editing their chat shows they had a preview afternoon which was enjoyed by many of their parents.
The pictures below show some of the girls with their certificates for completing their challenge.
The Cookery Club has been running for the last few weeks in school, and all the children in volved have been having a blast.
Guided by Chef and friend of school, Jonathan Lyttle, the children have conjured up treats such as Chicken wraps, Chocolate Buns(Rocky Roads), Apple Scones, Melted Moments, Halloween Biscuits, Coconut Macaroons, Soup, Smoothies, and yesterday's delight-Snickers & Peanut Butter Muffins.
There are three more weeks remaining-and the children can't wait!
Our extended schools programme continues with the introduction of Jo Jingles-the musical and movement programme kicked off today and will continue for the next 6 weeks.
Children from Primary 5-7 have been enjoying a new activity.....one which many of them may have a particular talent for!
They have started attending Circus Training in Melvin Hall in Strabane.
Funded by our own Extended Schools Initiative and run by Strabane District Council, the children have really enjoyed their first session-learning how to use a diablo, spinning planes and stilt walking!
The children have been back in the swing of things lately-Limavady Golf Professional Shaun Devenney has been back in school lending a few tips and tricks to the children-and they've been loving it!
Remember you can enlarge the pictures in a new window by clicking on them!
12 lucky children took their first steps into the equestrian sports today when the travelled to Ardmore stables under the watchful eye of Patricia McFaul.
The children were able to get their hands dirty mucking out, take care of the horses, giving them makeovers etc, and most importantly-learning to ride!!!
In what is a fantastic opportunity for the children, everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves-Mr Guy just wished he was a few(£!*&?) years younger so that he could join in!
Following the series of golf lessons the children in school had received, the next step was to venture out into the golf arena! 24 children travelled to the Roe Park resort in Limavady where they met up with their former coach Shaun. The children got to spend time on the driving range, the short game practice area and the putting green-as well as then taking on the par 3 third hole. They also got to enjoy nice food from the restaurant. As always their behaviour was excellent! The pictures below show some of the fun the children had:
After School Clubs!
Our school offers a wide variety of after school clubs such as:
Football, Cookery, Dance, Fit Kidz, Hockey, Cricket, Horse Riding, Golf, Karate, Tennis, Yoga
At football we do lots of warm up games such as dribbling the ball round cones, skills, jogging, running and shooting. Our football team has had lots of success this season. Our coach is Mr Guy A.K.A our principal and P.7 teacher.
At hockey our trainer is Lyn Russell. At hockey we do lots of warm up games like dribbling the ball, we also have relay races in teams! We learn lots of skills we can do with the hockey ball and stick. We play lots of hockey games too.
At cricket we do lots of warm ups like throwing the ball and catching it. We won the Tyrone cricket cup in the years 2005 and 2006. Our cricket team went to Belfast to enter a cricket competition and we came runners up in 2005 and in 2006. Our coach for cricket is Mr Guy.
At golf we practice our putting and chipping skills .We also play team games .We are so lucky that we have a professional golfer, who teaches us every Monday afternoon-his name is Shaun Devenney.
At cookery our teacher is Jonathon Lyttle. On our first week of cookery we made French bread pizza and fruit smoothies! On our second week we made chocolate chip muffins and on our third week we made wheaten scones. Yummy!
FitKidz is for P3/4. The trainer for Fitkidz is Gary. At Fitkidz the P3/4’s enjoy playing various games to help keep them fit! Overall it’s a fun way to keep fit!
Monkeynastics is for P1/2. It is run by Elaine. At Monkeynastics P1/2 enjoy doing gymnastics and fun games using loads of different equipment!
At dance everyone enjoys doing different types of dances plus doing fun warm up dances. Dance is ran by Tina Trent. At the end of the year the dancers plan to show the whole school what they have learnt!
There are many more activities to come this year and we can't wait!!
Our hockey coach who first visited us last year is returning this Friday-children who have expressed an interest in attending have already received permission slips. These need to be returned by Friday. The lessons will run for eight weeks, on a Friday afternoon from 2.30 p.m. until 3.30 p.m.
(Please note that on Friday 16th February, we will be closed for our Half term holiday-the hockey will there fore take place on Thursday 15th, from 3-4 p.m.)
Our after school activities are gathering pace this year-and the children in Primary 3 & Four are endeavouring to become fighting fit!
They have been attending after schools clubs with Gary who runs his own 'Fitkidz' activities. You can see from the pictures the children are getting the chance to get fit and release some aggression!
The after schools Bowls club has been running now for a couple of weeks-after an initial delay due to an electrical failure! The club has been running under the watchful eye of local man James Madden.
James has been involved in bowling among the community for a long time and the children are really enjoying his input.
If children in school never knew about the number four-they do now, in the 'fore' version!
We are delighted to have PGA Professional golfer Shaun Devenney in school for the next few weeks. Shaun is linked with the Radisson Roe Park resort in Limavady and will be taking two groups for an hour each per week.
The children started the set of lessons with an introduction to the slippery art of putting and will be moving on through a fun and exciting set of lessons.
Both boys and girls from Primary 5 through to 7 have really been enjoying the lessons and who knows, we may have the next Tiger Woods or Michelle Wie on our hands!
The latest after school activity kicked off today with the arrival of a certain Mr Lyttle. The name should not be unfaniliar to many!
The children staying behind filled the corridors with fine aromas-making both pizzas and smoothies during their first session.
There is a full programme of cooking events planned for the incoming weeks, and if today's events are anything to go by will be happy, not hungry!
